Cubic Spline Interpolation

Function: 3sin(2x)+4cos(3x) - Cubic Spline Interpolation 1

Three functions were generated to examine Cubic Spline interpolations at the same interval.

  • Cubic Spline been applied on 100 nodes points of the input dataset at an interval [0,10]. Interpolation has generated 10 points between each node.
  • Linear interpolation of 100 fitted function nodes
  • Linear interpolation of 1000 fitted function nodes

Illustrations will show interpolation of critical points, which are the function's local maximums and minimums. For this trigonometric composed function the Cubic Spline gives quite a good result including function interval ends which is normally difficult to produce.

Graph 1. Cubic Spline interpolations of function f(x)= 3sin(2x)+4cos(3x).

•  Function defined on interval [0,10]

•  Interpolation using 100 function fitted nodes

•  Interpolation points between two nodes is 10

Graph 2. Same function as zoomed Graph 1. showing Cubic Spline interpolation and function with excellent overlapping of each other.

•  Green line - Linear function 100 nodes

•  Blue line - Cubic Spline 100nodes

•  Red Line - Linear interpolation 1000 nodes
